Midlife-A-Go-Go the podcast!

Oct 16, 2019

Life can sometimes be hard; I think we can all agree on that. But nothing can compare to hearing a doctor say to you, "Your son has a brain tumor." My guest on today's episode is Karen DeBonis and her family's life was forever changed when their son was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Karen and I talk about her journey from a woman who couldn't stand up for herself to a woman who became her son's staunchest advocate.

As an adult, Karen had some hard truths that she had to accept. Her journey is one of ultimate courage and strength. In this episode, we chat about:

  • How Karen’s childhood shaped her adult life and agreeable nature.
  • Her moment of clarity; her paradigm shift from being agreeable to finding her voice.
  • Her son, Matt’s, story.
  • A mother’s instinct: knowing that something was wrong with her son, despite what her pedestrian was saying.
  • Learning to stand up for herself.
  • Mom-turned-mentor.
  • Post-traumatic growth.
  • “The weak are stronger than the strong.”
  • Karen’s message may not be for the strong woman.
